30th Blog Post(CNY 2014)

Calling all HFM Readers!

This is a very special blog post, as you would have guessed from title, umhf… It's my 30th Blog Post. And it's all about…………….. CNY 2014!

CNY 2014 is around the corner, so what are you planning to eat?

***********************************

You could have a family reunion dinner, or, basically make your own Chinese New Year goodies!

Refer to this site for the recipe:

Well-known places for reunion dinners are Asia Grand(Bras Basah), Yum Cha(Chinatown), Crystal Jade(Causeway Point), Din Tai Fung(Paragon) is a relatively well-known in Singapore and Malaysia(Kuala Lumpur).

I would personally prefer Din Tai Fung and Asia Grand. The branches that are a little more popular are Paragon for Din Tai Fung and Bras Basah for Asia Grand.

Let's start the review for Din Tai Fung first.

Must try their xiao long bao as it is very nice and the juice inside is quite sweet.
Shrimp fried rice is also quite nice.

Now, Asia Grand.

Try their dim sum- chicken feet, har kao, siew Mai, char siew bun, custard egg bun

Once again, Happy Chinese New Year 2014 to Everyone.

Sorry that this is late. :)

965, Upper Serangoon Rd - Hock Kee Fried Oyster

I'm not sure if you have heard of this but they are located at 965, Upper Serangoon Rd. I think the name is Hock Kee Fried Oyster. The food was, I won't say terrible, I won't say that it was good too. It was just um.... bland? wait.......... BLAND. I can't say much about it but these are the dishes that I tried:

Dish 1: Black Carrot Cake

Dish 2: Oyster Omelette

Dish 3: Char Kway Teow(Fried Kway Teow)
I was meant to try this dish but they were sold out on that day so I just ate 2 dishes.

Opinions:

Dish 1: Not enough sauce

Dish 2: Just bland.... just Bland

If you want to try it, I'll say, "Don't". But the choice is yours.

Restaurant Chin Huat

Kuala Lumpur has this really special restaurant. It's special coz, most of the dishes there have their main ingredient- GINGER. The sounds of that doesn't seem appetizing BUT, it really was. The restaurant was in the south of KL.

Must Try Dish 1:
Wine Chicken

Must Try Dish 2:
Paper Wrap Chicken

Must Try Dish 3:
Fried Prawns

Must Try Dish 4:
Ginger Braised Fish

My favourite was the Must Try Dish 2: Paper Wrapped Chicken.

If you're going to Kuala Lumpur soon, you have to try these few dishes.

My opinions:
1. Wine Chicken was too strong. The taste was just... WOAH really strong.
2. Paper Wrapped Chicken was really nice and just perfect.
3. Really loved the Fried Prawns. The sauce was sweet.
4. The Ginger Braised Fish was a bit strong and once it enters your mouth, the ginger taste just explodes.

Drive Safe if you're driving to KL and to the restaurants cause lots of roads are under construction.

Ichi Zen Japanese Restaurant Melaka

Have any of you been to Melaka? Well, if you have, then you must have tried this restaurant. If you haven't, then let me tell you about it.

I'm sure most of you have heard of the Swan Garden Hotel in Melaka. Just follow the road in all the way. You will see Place2Stay hotel and then Ichi Zen Japanese Restaurant. Business hours are( this is approximate. Not accurate) 11am - 1am  6.30pm - 10pm* Try googling for the accurate timing.

It's a very pleasant restaurant and you have to try basically everything. I recommend the Ichi Don meal.( not sure if it is really called that) but look for the words - cubes of raw fish/sashimi with rice.

You must really try it. It's just so good. There are lots of dishes like you could order the California roll. This one is round and has crab stick, cucumber and avacado. Has ebiko around it.

I'm extremely sorry that this review has very little and inaccurate information. I really forgot to remember a lot of things.

If you're still reading my blog, thank you for your support.

Griddy

I think most of you have heard of Singapore's newest shopping mall - westgate
It is located directly next to the JEM shopping mall in Jurong East. So I went on a shopping trip there with my mum. The minute we stepped in,

PROS: Quite grand and nice decorations.

CONS: It smelled of new paint and cement.

You may be wondering about the pro & con thing, I have decided to start this thing where my first impressions were involved. But, I may not do it everytime. So no promises.

Back to topic, so we shopped.... ALOT and what a coincidence. TEMT was on a 50% off sale storewide but apparently, the sale is over and everything went back to its normal price of S$30-S$60.

They were many shops in westgate but how about restaurants? Answer: THE BASEMENT. We ate at the small café named GRIDDY<-- sounds like greedy :'D My mum wanted a simple meal so we ordered a beef burger and topped up $0.90 for fries and a drink. Plus GST, the total:

Adding up the cost...............

The total is S$8.90.

Very affordable.

It was yummy and the thing that stands out, the buns were waffles.

I won't say much about the café coz I want you to try it out yourself and tell me how it taste like.

Sayonara!
